The project includes the management of 26 pumping stations and four Wastewater Treatment Plants (WWTPs), including primary treatment at Vale do Lazareto, in a municipality that already has around 99% coverage in basic sanitation.

The contract provides for the full operation and maintenance of the infrastructures, covering all stages of the treatment process, as well as the upkeep of green spaces and other associated facilities. This integrated management model aims to ensure high standards of operational efficiency, contribute to environmental protection, and enhance the quality of life of the local population.

"With the start of this contract, which has a three-year duration, Aquapor reaffirms its commitment to excellence in water resource management, through a clear focus on operational efficiency, environmental responsibility, and the creation of value for the municipality of Funchal and its residents. To ensure an even more effective response and maintain high performance levels, the local technical team will be reinforced, ensuring continuous, specialised support focused on the ongoing improvement of the service.

The Funchal WWTP treats around 30,000 m³ of wastewater per day, producing approximately 1.5 tonnes of screenings per day, with a daily production of around 32 tonnes of sludge expected. These indicators highlight the scale and strategic importance of this infrastructure for the region, as well as the direct impact of its operation on environmental sustainability.
