This distinction was announced at the Global Water Summit in Paris on May 13th, 2025, one of the sector’s most influential international gatherings. As part of its induction, Emalsa was awarded the Golden Tap, a rare accolade recognizing long-standing operational excellence, innovation, and sustainability. It becomes only the second Spanish utility in history to receive this honor. For over 40 years, Emalsa has exemplified how a well-structured public-private model can bring
concrete and lasting benefits to urban water management. By combining the strategic vision of the City of Las Palmas with the technical expertise and international capabilities of the Saur Group, Emalsa has ensured the daily supply of 77,000 cubic meters of drinking water to more than 400,000 residents, achieving nearly 95% customer satisfaction.

This successful collaboration has positioned Emalsa as a resilience leader in Spain and the Mediterranean, with over 85% of water needs met through innovative seawater desalination, including four registered patents that have improved efficiency and quality.

Through LUOW, Emalsa will share these pioneering innovations — such as large-scale digitalization and smart infrastructure management — while gaining valuable insights from fellow global leaders in water services.

"Emalsa perfectly embodies our belief in the power of localglobal cooperation. By combining municipal leadership with Saur’s cutting-edge water expertise, we’ve created a resilient, innovative utility that others can look to as a model. "
