The Community of Municipalities of the Pompey Basin has entrusted the management of the public drinking water service to Saur, an international group specialising in water infrastructure and services for local authorities and industry, for the next twelve years, as of 1 July 2026.
This new contract, which is the result of a competitive tendering procedure, will gradually unify water management in the 13 municipalities of the territory, with a staggered integration:
- As of 1 July 2026: Champigneulles, Custines, Faulx, Lay-Saint-Christophe, Liverdun, Malleloy, Millery, Montenoy, Saizerais, Pompey
- As of 1 January 2027: Bouxières-aux-Dames and Marbache
- As of 1 January 2028: Frouard
This change is part of a desire to guarantee residents a reliable, local and forward-looking service, while sustainably preserving water resources, a major challenge for the northern Nancy living area.
A local service for users
Saur France will set up an organisation based on local presence and accessibility. To facilitate procedures and exchanges, users will benefit from new innovative digital tools that will complement the telephone and physical presence. In particular, they will allow for personalized support and, in certain situations, an initial remote diagnosis. This organisation aims to offer a simple, responsive and accessible service to all, as close as possible to the daily needs of users.
Preserving networks and securing the water supply
The Community of Municipalities of the Pompey Basin and Saur France will work together to ensure the proper functioning of the drinking water network. Together, they will monitor the state of the facilities and define the actions to be taken to maintain, modernize and secure the equipment. This joint work will make it possible to anticipate needs, to intervene gradually on the network and to ensure a reliable water supply on a daily basis. The Collectivity will remain fully involved in the monitoring of the service, while Saur France will put its know-how at the service of the Pompey Basin region, with a shared objective: to guarantee quality water for the inhabitants, today and for years to come.
Sustainable and responsible management
The project led by Saur France for the Pompey Basin will fully integrate the challenges of ecological and climate transition, which are particularly sensitive at the scale of the Meurthe-et-Moselle region. The operation of the service will be based on practices aimed at reducing consumption, limiting environmental impact and improving network performance.
Remote reading: an innovation at the service of the inhabitants and the territory
The new contract also provides for the gradual deployment of remote reading of water meters, a modern technology that will improve both service to users and network management. In concrete terms, smart meters automatically transmit consumption data via a secure network.
For the inhabitants of the territory, remote reading will make it possible to:
- monitor your water consumption on a daily basis and better control your uses
- Benefit from billing based on actual consumption
- receive alerts in the event of leaks or overconsumption (SMS, email, etc.)
With this new contract, the Pompey Basin and Saur France affirm their commitment to an efficient, sustainable and inclusive public water service, at the heart of the region and at the service of the quality of life of its inhabitants.
