A historic partnership, at the heart of the region

Created in 1972, the SMAP brings together 121 municipalities and provides drinking water for one-third of the Côtes-d’Armor department, while participating in the departmental interconnection and supporting the Pays de Saint-Malo.

A partner of the SMAP for over 50 years, Saur France has had its contract renewed for a further twelve years. This renewal confirms the long-standing trust of a major Breton union and illustrates Saur France’s ability to support local authorities over the long term.

This contract is based on three pillars:

  • Modern production facilities capable of responding to changing needs;
  • Water quality exceeding regulatory requirements;
  • Rigorous asset management, with nearly 1,300 equipment renewal operations planned over the term of the contract.

Addressing departmental water challenges

At a time when producing high-quality water is becoming increasingly difficult, water resources are fragile, and local authorities are strengthening their sustainable development objectives, this contract is fully in line with the regional strategy for resilience to climate change.

Saur France reaffirms its commitment alongside the SMAP: increased mobilization of local teams to guarantee the continuity and quality of public service, greater responsiveness to unforeseen events, and exemplary governance with real-time reporting, regular steering committees, and an additional position dedicated to contract monitoring.

Innovating to preserve resources and reduce our environmental footprint

In a context of pressure on resources, drinking water production must be accompanied by concrete solutions to preserve it and limit the environmental impact of its exploitation. Saur France will therefore deploy:

  • Bio Sentinelle, an innovative solution for enhanced monitoring of raw water quality;
  • Solutions to reduce carbon emissions, such as the installation of six solar trackers by 2026 and the implementation of variable speed drives on booster pumps;
  • Optimization of hydraulic performance by replacing sand with Filtralite, enabling a target efficiency of 98.5% to be achieved;
  • Circular economy solutions with the reuse of settling land and the use of locally produced BioCO₂ for water treatment;
  • Resource optimization by reducing water losses on feeders (target of 97%), controlling energy consumption, and fine-tuning treatment products.

Securing supply for the future

Every year, the SMAP undertakes numerous investment projects relating to its drinking water production and transport facilities in order to meet new health regulations and ensure the continuity of public service for all users, whether domestic, industrial, agricultural, or simply passing through.

Saur France will support the local authority at every stage of its projects, drawing on its technical expertise and experience in managing large-scale hydraulic facilities.

"Following a competitive bidding process based on a draft contract drawn up by the local authority, we decided to renew our trust in Saur France for the next 12 years because the bid submitted was the most advantageous in economic and technical terms. This new contract is very demanding: ethical and transparent in the operation of the facilities entrusted to us, responsible and sustainable in the management of resources, innovative and consistent with the transitions currently underway. The SMAP and Saur France will continue to join forces to serve the region. "
Michel Raffray
President of the SMAP
"Together with the SMAP, we are continuing a human and technical adventure that has lasted for more than half a century. Beyond technical performance, it is a collective commitment to securing drinking water for 220,000 residents and demonstrating that it is possible to combine continuity of public service with environmental innovation in the face of climate challenges.
